HOW TO WRITE AN ACADEMIC PARAGRAPH 

Topic: Team sports 

Theo kinh nghiệm giảng dạy IELTS của cô, cô thấy rất nhiều bạn bị ảnh hưởng bởi cách viết văn sáng tạo khi viết văn học thuật IELTS. Các bạn hay dùng lối nói ẩn ý, lan man, nên nhiều khi khiến cho bài viết của bạn bị mất điểm oan. Hãy bắt đầu luyện viết đoạn văn học thuật ngắn nhất từ 3 câu theo sơ đồ hình phễu sau đây các bạn nhé! Hãy để người đọc đi từ thông tin bao quát đến cụ thể dần, từ ý chính, giải thích, đến ví dụ cụ thể. Hay nói cách khác, đây là văn diễn dịch. Nào, chúng ta cùng triển khai từng bước để hiểu cách làm bài nhé: 

STEP 1: Process of ideas: (BƯỚC 1) Tùy vào chủ đề - phạm vi hiểu biết của các bạn, mà các bạn sẽ chọn nhóm ý tưởng theo hướng Up-Down hay Down-Up.

STEP 2: OUTLINE (BƯỚC 2): Dàn ý 

1. Topic sentence = Topic (Team sports) + Controlling idea (Benefits) + (Supporting idea) (for some main reasons)
2. Explanation = Topic (sports played in group) + Explanation to support Topic sentence (Good health + Teambuilding skill)
3. Example = A specific detail related to the topic (Football - two teams/ 11 members - healthy)

STEP 3: FULL WRITING (BƯỚC 3): Bài viết mẫu 

(TS) There is some evidence to suggest that team sports bring out many enormous benefits to human beings for several main reasons. (EXP) In more detail, sports played in group definitely improves not only the players’ health but also their teambuilding skill which is one of the important social skills in both study and work. (EX) For example, in football, two 11-member teams compete each other in a strategic way, so these healthy football players have to learn how to co-operate with each other well in a match.

- The important social skills (n) Kỹ năng xã hội quan trọng 

- Compete in a strategic way (v) Cạnh tranh theo hướng chiến lược 

- Healthy (adj) Khỏe mạnh

- Co-operate (v) Hợp tác, phối hợp 

Tương tự như vậy, các bạn hãy áp dụng viết đoạn cho các chủ đề sau:

3. Write a paragraph about reasons for the popularity of social networks 

4. Write a paragraph about problems of violent movies
