Task 2: Some people believe that certain old buildings should be preserved more than others.
What types of old buildings should be preserved?
Do you think the advantages of preserving old buildings outweigh the disadvantages?
It is generally believed that the governments should maintain several specific ancient towers more significantly than others because they have historical and national values. Personally, I totally believe the merits can overshadow the downsides.
On the one hand, there are many old buildings nowadays related to crucial events, majestic stories and also well-known characters. Protecting them means that we are reserving and appreciating the history of our countries. Moreover, this can be extremely amazing for us to popularize our national images and tradition to foreign friends and visitors. It can be the ideal way to attract foreigners to discover and enjoy our customs so as to make a great contribution to the national budget. In Vietnam, for example, our GDP comes primarily from tourism around ancient buildings so we are indoctrinated to respect and save some special antique towers which are recognized as a part of history.
However, this is not always beneficial to countries due to some reasons. The increasing population demands a lot of towers and complexes so the more structures remain intact, the less space we have for other necessary infrastructures. In addition, some old flats not only have no practical value but also influence the scenery and environment in the local areas. As a result, the state needs to invest more in renovating or completely demolishing the run-down properties, so there are fewer financial resources for improving healthcare systems, school facilities, and transportation, etc.
In conclusion, many measures to preserve ancient towers can bring priceless advantages in some situations. Nevertheless, we should seriously choose suitable sites to prevent unexpected consequences.
